Formula

Volume (cu in) = length (in) × width × depth; Tubes = ⌈volume / tube_volume⌉
  • 1 fl oz = 1.80469 cu in. Standard 10.3 oz tube = ~18.6 cu in.
  • For a 3/8×1/4 in joint, a 10.3 oz tube covers ~166 linear feet.
  • Add 10% for overlap at ends and partial beads.

Frequently asked questions

What depth should caulk be applied?
Ideal caulk bead depth = width/2. For a 3/8 in wide joint, fill to 3/16 in depth. Deep joints should use backer rod to control depth and save sealant.
