- Openings such as doors and windows are not deducted — subtract their volume separately for large gaps.

How many bricks are in a cubic foot?
For a standard 9×4.5×3 inch brick laid with mortar, roughly 13.5 bricks fill one cubic foot of wall.
What's the difference between a full and half brick wall?
A full (9-inch) wall is one brick thick and load-bearing; a half (4.5-inch) wall is thinner and used for partitions. Thickness changes the volume and brick count.
Why add wastage?
Bricks break during transport and cutting, so a small wastage allowance (here 5%) helps ensure you order enough.
Are openings deducted?
No. Doors and windows are not subtracted automatically. For large openings, calculate their volume and deduct the bricks separately.
Does brick size affect the result?
Yes. The 13.5-per-cubic-foot figure assumes a standard brick. Non-standard sizes will change the count.
