Beach Price Index Calculator

Work out the final price of a beach-day purchase once sales tax or GST is added. Enter the pre-tax amount and the tax rate, and the calculator returns the tax charged and the total you'll actually pay — handy for budgeting drinks, food and rentals on a trip.

Formula

Tax = Amount × (Rate% ÷ 100); Total = Amount + Tax
  • Tax charged = pre-tax amount × (tax rate ÷ 100).
  • Final total = pre-tax amount + tax charged.
  • Use your local sales tax or GST rate (for example, 17% general sales tax in Pakistan).
  • If a price is already tax-inclusive, divide by (1 + rate/100) instead to find the pre-tax amount.

Rs 1,000 purchase at 17% tax

Inputs
  • Amount (PKR): 1000
  • Tax Rate %: 17

Tax = 1000 × 0.17 = Rs 170. Total = 1000 + 170 = Rs 1,170, which is what you actually pay at the counter.

Frequently asked questions

What does this calculator work out?
It adds sales tax or GST to a pre-tax amount, showing both the tax charged and the final total you pay.
What tax rate should I use?
Use the rate that applies where you're buying. In Pakistan the general sales tax is commonly 17%, but it varies by item and province.
How do I find the pre-tax price from a tax-inclusive total?
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate/100). For 17%, divide by 1.17 to get the amount before tax.
Can I use it for any purchase?
Yes — although it's framed around beach-day spending, the price-plus-tax maths works for any purchase.
